Iberico Products Types

Google “Buy Iberico Ham” or “Buy Iberian Ham”. How many results did you find? There is a huge offer of Iberico products, and there are several similar products with different prices. Which is better to you? In order to help to help to the customer and making it easier to identify the quality of the product, the Spanish goverment made a labeling regulation based on colors.

The classification for the labeling is made based on two criteria:

• Food: Iberian pigs are fed with pastures, feed or acorns, what provides a higher quality to the product.
• Breed: The pigs can be 100%, 75% or 50% Iberian, with 100% being the highest quality. The 100% Iberian pigs have 100% Iberian breed ascendants.

Following these criteria, there are 4 types of labels. Black, red, green and white, from highest quality to best price.

• Black Label: 100% Iberian hams, raised in freedom and fed with grasses and acorns
• Red Label: Raised in freedom and fed with grasses and acorns. They can be 75% or 50% Iberian.
• Green Label: 100%, 75 or 50% Iberian pigs. The pigs live in freedom too, but they are fed with feed and supplemented with grasses.
• White Label: 100%, 75% or 50% iberian pigs fed with feed in feedlot.
